Why do I want a digital camera? E-mail
So, you've been considering buying a digital camera? Or, maybe you've just heard quite a bit about digital cameras, and you're wondering what all the fuss is about? Digital cameras have brought the opportunity to take a lot of high quality prints to everyone. They allow you to see your pictures right away. Digital cameras also give everyone the ability to edit photographs like a professional. And, let's not forget, digital cameras make sharing pictures extremely easy. Also, you don't even need a computer to get your pictures.

With a digital camera, because there is no cost associated with each picture taken, you can take as many pictures as you like. This gives you a better chance of getting that perfect shot. Any shots that don't turn out, you can delete right away or after you transfer it to your computer (if you do so).
Take 30 pictures of your three year old at a pumpkin patch - you might actually get one of him or her looking at you.

After you take your picture, almost all digital cameras have a display on the back that you can use to review your picture. You can decide right away whether you want to keep or delete it, and you can show your subject how the picture came out right away. To find out more about this and other features of digital cameras, read our article, "What to look for in a digital camera".

There are various ways you can edit and touch up your digital pictures. If you copy the pictures to your computer, there are many choices for digital editing software - your camera will likely include some simple software as well. If you choose to have your pictures developed at a department or camera store, or even online, you will likely have an opportunity to remove red eyes or crop (cut out just the part of the picture you want) the picture. Even many photo printers have basic picture editing abilities. For more information about developing pictures, see our article titled, "Developing and sharing digital pictures".

Sharing your pictures is very easy with digital pictures. If you have a computer and internet access, there are many sites that will allow you to upload and share your pictures. One of my favorites is Snapfish. Of course, they can also be emailed. Or, you can copy them to a CD, either by yourself, or at the same places that develop film pictures. And, of course, you can have prints made wwhich you can send to others. Again, more information is available in our article titled, "Developing and sharing digital pictures".
